Hi, I’m Joshua Chant, the founder of Lifelong Sport and I am so pumped to be sharing this with you.
Over my years as a sailing coach, I have had the pleasure of working with elite athletes campaigning towards Olympic selection, I have won a world championship as well as state and national titles. I have also had the pleasure of managing and coaching our State youth teams and I’ve worked extensively as the Head Coach of a number of clubs.

Through this extensive career, spanning over 20 years I’ve realised that elite level coaching is enjoyable but no where as rewarding as teaching newcomers to my sport. Helping them engage with and leading their journey of discovery, helping them be safe and maximising their enjoyment and skill acquisition is immensely satisfying. It certainly fills my cup!
As I worked and learned and deepened my knowledge I couldn’t help but think, how can I help more people fall in love with their sport? If it is so rewarding to help the 500 or so people come through our sailing school and club each year, how much more rewarding would it be to help a much larger audience?
So much of what I know applies to participants of all sports. How to teach, how to be inclusive, how to develop intrinsic motivation and cultivate players for life.
So now I’m stepping beyond the sphere of which ever club I happen to be working at. Now I’m elevating my actions and brining my skills and knowledge to a broader audience. Im brining it to a global audience.
Together with every official, employee, volunteer, member, player, and parent we can fine tune what we do for our players, maximising the likelihood of keeping them in the sport for life.
If we can do this, what a great gift it would be to give them.
